
Margaret Barbour
Margaret is an accomplished violinist, arranger, orchestrator, and composer, who graduated magna cum laude from the esteemed Berklee College of Music with a dual degree in Performance/Contemporary Writing and Production. Based out of Brookline, MA, Margaret currently works as freelance performer throughout the greater Boston and New England area. ​Most notably she has performed alongside Mia Asano, the 8 Bit Big Band, Grace Kelly, and Sissy Castrogiovanni, and at famed venues including Carnegie Hall and MGM Music Hall.
Margaret has been playing the violin for over a decade. Originally from Tulsa, Oklahoma, she studied under both Rossitza Goza and Sheri Neubauer, concertmasters of the Tulsa and Bartlesville Symphony Orchestras respectively. In her youth she earned recognition as a winner of the 2020 Tulsa Youth Symphony Concerto Competition, the 2017 and 2018 Tulsa Camerata Chamber Music Competitions, and as a participant in a selective masterclass with renowned violinist Rachel Barton Pine. During her time at Berklee, she studied under acclaimed jazz violinists Sara Caswell, Jason Annick, Mimi Rabson, and Sandra Kott.

In addition to performing, Margaret works freelance as a composer, arranger, and orchestrator specializing in jazz and musical theatre. During her time at Berklee, she was a selected arranger for a number of large-scale productions and ensembles, including the Berklee Signature Series and the Boston Conservatory Pops. Additionally she was granted an Outstanding Achievement award and scholarship by the college's Contemporary Writing Division.
In 2024, she assisted in providing orchestrations for "Autobiography of Red", an original musical that premiered at Boston Center for the Arts, and "Her Name is Barbra", a critically acclaimed show in NYC celebrating the Legacy of Barbra Streisand. Most recently, she served as Music Supervisor for the Boston Conservatory's "Rooted in Unity". Margaret has been teaching violin and viola privately for almost 5 years, and music theory/composition for 3 years as a Berklee Core Music Tutor. Her teaching style allows for stylistic freedom and exploration, while simultaneously promoting exceptional technique and the foundational skills necessary to develop as a musician.
