Kevin Chen
Kevin Chen is a versatile pianist, composer, songwriter, and sound designer from Toronto, Canada. Kevin’s musical journey began at an early age in a musical household, where he began learning classical piano at four years old. His passion for music led him to complete the Royal Conservatory of Music’s ARCT level with first-class honors by the age of fourteen. Following his passion, Kevin pursued a major in Film Scoring at Berklee College of Music in 2021, where he was awarded a world tour scholarship.
At Berklee, Kevin studied piano as his principal instrument under Tim Ray where he developed many jazz fundamentals. He was also a Screen Scoring Peer Tutor and Assistant during his last year at Berklee, giving aid to fellow Film Scoring students in need of homework help while assisting Screen Scoring Faculty in academic material prep.
After recently graduating, Kevin continues to expand his compositional repertoire, working with directors and game developers alike. He is known for his ability to craft captivating soundscapes across various mediums. With a diverse portfolio spanning animations, short films, and indie games, Kevin's work resonates with audiences through its emotive storytelling and immersive musical arrangements.
His collaborations include notable projects such as Heirs, a short film following Shun Kimura and his family conflicts that go on to affect his relationship; Pudge, a 2D isometric puzzle game about a block of tofu saving his vegetable friends from the kitchen; Garden Cat, an animatic following the adventures of a whimsical feline; and Passengers, an atmospheric animatic depicting the journey of a traveler. Currently, Kevin is lending his talents to The Sky, an upcoming animation short featuring an ice cube exploring a dystopian planet and Overshoot, an upcoming indie 2D platform shooter game.
Kevin’s teaching journey began in 2018 when he stepped in to assist his mother, a piano teacher, with her elementary students. This experience allowed him to provide personalized, one-on-one lessons, sparking a deep appreciation for teaching and the joy of guiding students in their musical growth. Today, Kevin continues to share his expertise, offering tailored piano and music theory lessons designed to align with each student’s unique goals and skill levels.
